Program Requirements

Recipients earn their scholarships by attending at least four meetings a month:

1. Monthly group meeting with their classmates: The group meetings of each class have a specific focus area that is relevant to that particular grade level.
2. Service learning activity: The required service hours (30 hours per year) have specific settings for each academic year. The First Year students provide service in After Care at Visitation Catholic School, where they tutor and mentor the students of the school. Sophomores through senior recipients provide service at Westhaven, a Senior Citizen residence, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
3. Study Table Session: VSP Students use this time to study for upcoming assignments, or receive one-on-one assistance from staff and volunteer tutors. All students must attend one Study Table Session per month, but those students who are on academic probation must attend at least two sessions per month until their grades become satisfactory.
4. Individual meeting with the Program Director: The individual meetings between the Program Director and the recipient provide an opportunity to assess and evaluate the progress and needs of each student and to plot out a strategic plan to address the concerns.
