Junior Scholars Program

History

The Junior Scholars Program (JSP), started in 1996, is a critical part of the Visitation Scholarship Program. The JSP began as an effort to further prepare students for the rigorous curriculum of Catholic high schools. The curriculum was designed to supplement what was taught at Visitation and give students enriching experiences outside of the standard classroom setting. There are about 40 students from the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades involved in the JSP each year. Although participation in the JSP does not guarantee acceptance to the VSP, the majority of VSP recipients were involved in the JSP while attending Visitation School.

Purpose

JSP is designed to recognize and encourage students of character who have achieved or are motivated to achieve academic excellence. The JSP seeks to keep students engaged and excited about learning. This excitement and desire to learn will serve Junior Scholars well both now and in the future. The purpose is to motivate Visitation students and to meet a critical need to ensure the integrity and continuity of the Visitation Scholarship Program (VSP). Participation in JSP does not guarantee acceptance into the VSP, but it does provide valuable experience that will help to prepare them for high school and beyond.
